AeroSep

Coalescer and filter separator cartridges for air, natural gas, and process gases

AeroSep is Exova's line for separating liquids and solids from air and gas streams. It has three models: AeroSep Coalescer, the standard line of 4″ coalescer cartridges; AeroSep Retrofit Coalescer, the direct replacement for Pall® LG series coalescers; and AeroSep First Stage, the replacement for Jonell TRI-SHiELD™ JFS cartridges for filter separators and dry gas filters.

A filter separator works in two stages. In the first, the AeroSep First Stage retains solids—sand, iron oxide, and iron sulfide—and pre-coalesces fine droplets. In the second, the vane pack or the coalescing elements, such as the AeroSep Coalescer and AeroSep Retrofit Coalescer, separate the already coalesced liquid, which drains to the bottom of the vessel. That is why the AeroSep First Stage is not a coalescer: it is the preceding stage that complements them. In coalescer vessels with the AeroSep Coalescer, by contrast, the baffle box sits upstream of the cartridges, as pre-separation of free liquid and large droplets.

The AeroSep Coalescer and the AeroSep Retrofit Coalescer use resin-bonded glass fiber, hydrophobic and oleophobic (grade H): the medium does not wet, drains the coalesced liquid, and prevents re-entrainment into the outlet gas. The AeroSep First Stage uses a dual layer of pleated glass microfiber—prefilter and final filter—on polyester and mesh supports, in ratings from 0.3 to 10 µm and up to 120 °C.

Glass microfiber or metal mesh

Industrial filter elements

Pleated elements for fuels, hydraulic oils and particles in gases

Besides the AeroSep coalescers, we manufacture pleated filter elements that retain particles in liquid fuels, hydraulic oils and gases. The filter medium is glass microfiber or metal mesh, depending on the retention grade and the service.

They are made in different heights, to suit the unit where they are installed. To define each one, we need the fluid, the flow rate, the retention grade and the dimensions of the installed element or the housing.

Frequently asked questions

Industrial filters: common questions

What does a coalescer cartridge do?

It merges the fine liquid droplets carried by a gas—water, hydrocarbons, oil—into larger drops, which run down by gravity to the filter separator drain.

Do you have replacement elements for installed filter separators?

Yes. The AeroSep Retrofit Coalescer replaces LG series coalescing elements, and the AeroSep First Stage replaces JFS first-stage elements, with the same dimensions and interface. If your unit uses a different element, send us its part number or dimensions.

When is the element replaced?

Based on differential pressure. For the AeroSep First Stage, its catalog recommends replacement between 12 and 15 psid (0.83 to 1.03 bar).

Do you make fuel and hydraulic filter elements?

Yes. We manufacture pleated elements in glass microfiber or metal mesh for liquid fuels, hydraulic oils and gases, in the height your equipment needs. Send us the fluid, the flow rate and the dimensions of the installed element.
