ProFlow Plus, pleated polypropylene cartridge by Exova

Description

The ProFlow Plus is a pleated polypropylene filter cartridge made with progressive-porosity polypropylene microfibers. It retains a large quantity of particles in fluids with a high contaminant load and is used as a prefilter for membrane cartridges and to remove contaminants in industrial processes.

It has 8,000 cm² of filtration area per 10″, which gives it a low pressure drop, high filtration flow rates, and high retention capacity. Retention is absolute in the 0.5 to 20 µm ratings, with 99.9 % efficiency (Beta 1000) for particles of the cartridge's pore size; the full range runs from 0.2 to 40 µm.

All of its components are polypropylene, joined by heat sealing and free of additives and surfactants: broad chemical compatibility and low extractables levels. It withstands steam sterilization at 121 °C, hot water sanitization at 80 °C, and chemical sanitization and cleaning.

Frequently asked questions

Which ratings are absolute?

The 0.5 to 20 µm ratings, with 99.9 % efficiency (Beta 1000) for particles of the cartridge's pore size. The full range is 0.2, 0.45, 0.5, 0.65, 0.8, 1, 2.5, 5, 7, 10, 12, 20, and 40 µm.

What applications is it used for?

As a prefilter for membrane cartridges and to remove contaminants in water, reverse osmosis pretreatment, carbonated beverages, beer, wine, sugar and fructose syrups, chemicals, solvents, gases, and cosmetics.

Can it be steam sterilized?

Yes. It withstands multiple cycles of 30 to 60 minutes at 121 °C, in-line or in an autoclave. This is recommended only for single-open-end cartridges with internal reinforcement at the 226 / 222 O-ring fitting, as is hot water sanitization at 80 °C.

What differential pressure can it withstand?

Up to 5.5 bar (80 psi) at 25 °C in the forward direction and 0.69 bar (10 psi) at 25 °C in reverse flow. The cartridge is changed out at a maximum differential pressure of 2 bar.

What fittings and O-rings are available?

Double 226 or 222 O-ring with fin or flat end, or double open end (DOE). O-rings can be silicone, Buna, Viton, EPDM, PTFE-coated Viton, or Teflon.
